When you go and visit a friend in Paris (or elsewhere in France) you'll
need more than just the address - you'll also need Le Code.
Without it, you won't get past the outer door which usually leads to
a small inner courtyard, or a stairway. Some buildings do have an
intercom between the front door and the individual apartments, but
most of the older buildings do not. If you don't have the code,
you'll have to find a nearby telephone to tell your friends that
you're stuck just outside - so close, and yet so far.
