Technical Information

The phographs in this exposition were taken using two camera systems. A 35mm format and a 6cm format.

The 35mm system comprised a Nikon F, with 35mm, 58mm, 105mm and 200mm lenses. In addition to the standard viewfinder, I often used a waistlevel finder for shots where I could not fit, but had to reach in with the camera.

The medium format system was the then new Mamiya 33 Twin Lens Reflex. Lenses were 65mm, 80mm, and 135mm. A Porrofinder was somtimes used in sunlight.

Films selected were Panchromatic X for the 35mm, and VeriPan for the 6cm.

Developing was done by open reel in open tanks in a film darkroom. Microdol (at 50%) was used for the Panchromatic X, and standard Kodak film developer was employed on the VeriPan.

Prints were made on Ilford paper, usually staying with #2 stock. No special developer was used, a short stop, and regular fixer were utilized. Washing was done for double time, with an archiving (non-browning) agent employed. That they look this good after 35 years means it worked!

The printed images were scanned on a Microtek E6 scanner at 72 dpi. for 8" x 10" images, Smaller originals were scanned at a proportionally higher dpi. to give the same apparent resolution.

The negatives (some of my prints had been lost in a fire) were scanned on a Microtek 35t-plus at a dpi that would equal an 8x10 printed image.

They are all (except the painting) 8 bit (256 step) grey-scale images, but there is some blockiness noted when they are viewed on a 256 color card. If you have a driver for 65K colors - which will give you the 256 step grey-scale - use it!
