Opening Times: 14h - 17h; closed Tuesdays.
Hôtel de Soubise - one of the most significant ``Hôtel'' (mansions) of
the Marais district - was built in 1705-1708 for the Princesse de Soubise, on
a site of an older medieval sturcture. The towers of this former building are the sole remaining
traces of this earlier edifice (see left side of image below).
The Hôtel de Soubise was decorated by some of the most important artists and
craftsmen of their time: Boucher, van Loo and Lemoyne.
Private apartments of the princess, including the Oval Salon are well worth seeing.
Among the documents on display in the museum are the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes
(Louis XIV), the Concordat of 1802 between Napoléon and the Holy See,
the Declaration of the Rights of Man, and letters by Joan of Arc and Voltaire.
